In July 2016, CollegeBuys launched California Connects, a low-cost broadband internet access project for California Community College students, faculty, staff, and affiliated organizations. Access to computer and internet technology is a vital resource for connecting people to information and skills they need in an increasingly digital environment. A recent field poll conducted by the California Emerging Technology Fund found that many Californians still lack internet access, citing “The cost of getting online… was the main deterrent for those who reported an inability to surf the web where they live.”
The Foundation for California Community Colleges, through its CollegeBuys program, aims to help bridge the digital divide and technology access gap through its latest offering, California Connects. California Connects is a mobile hotspot and 4G LTE internet service powered by Sprint for any WiFi enabled device. The hotspot is compact and mobile with nationwide access*, allowing users to stay connected to the internet in school, at home, and on the go. Exclusively available through CollegeBuys, the initial cost to join California Connects is $99.99, which includes a mobile hotspot and first month’s internet service; thereafter, the monthly subscription cost is $19.99.
California Connects is the latest addition to discounted technology access tools available through CollegeBuys, which also includes Microsoft Office Professional Plus and Adobe Creative Cloud. Please help me spread the word to our students and peers by forwarding this email or printing the attached flier to increase awareness.
